Expert by Experience – What Does This Mean?

Being an "Expert by Experience" means that I have lived through the struggles of addiction and emerged on the other side—stronger, healthier, and free from the need to use alcohol to function. Since 2010, I have faced life without using it to dull my anxiety, suppress emotions, boost confidence, or simply get through the day. Alcohol was once my anaesthetic, my coping mechanism, but I no longer rely on it.

At one point, my ability to stop drinking disappeared. Once I started, I couldn’t stop, and my life spiralled into chaos. Addiction took over, making my world unmanageable—not just for me, but for those around me. It wasn’t until I asked for help, made a commitment to change, and put in the daily work that I was able to reclaim my life. And here I am today—Just For Today (JFT).

The light within me, once extinguished, now shines brightly. The impact of addiction therapy and holistic treatments was so profound, both physically and mentally, that in 2011, I decided to study them. For two years, I trained in Deep Tissue Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Reflexology, Ear Acupuncture, and EFT Matrix Re-imprinting. Now, I deliver these therapies with passion, helping others on their own recovery journeys.

Addiction therapy is not one-size-fits-all; it must be tailored to individual needs. My approach incorporates Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, EFT Matrix Re-imprinting, Holistic therapies and just someone to talk to—alongside the personal recovery tools that have transformed my life.

Energy plays a crucial role in my recovery. Maintaining a clear and positive mindset, staying grounded in the present, and putting in the work each day has given me a life I never thought possible. Being abstinent hasn’t just changed my world—it has created a better life for my loved ones as well. Today, we live a life we cherish, and one I am incredibly proud of. This is why I want to help others who are just at the beginning of their healing process.
